ByteDance has created a new first-level AI department — one of the company's top-tier org units — called AI Data and Security, placing it on equal footing with Seed and Flow. In ByteDance's AI org, Seed owns models and Flow owns AI products. This move gives data the same high-level placement.
The new department brings together the former Global Data team, the company-wide data platform DMC, and AIDP, a data team under Flow. ByteDance's official job listings already feature the AI Data and Security team, which will provide cross-modal data for Seed's foundation models and AI products — covering data procurement, production, cleaning, and evaluation.
