xAI just flipped the script on Grok subscriptions. Starting now, subscribers can log into third-party apps and use Grok's smarts directly — no more being locked into the official client. The first app to get this treatment is Hermes Agent, an open-source agent built by Nous Research. If you've got a Grok subscription, you can fire up Grok 4.3 for text chat and reasoning, or tap into voice synthesis and Grok Imagine's video and image generation.
Hermes Agent is designed to run persistently on any computer, sandbox, or cloud host. Its standout feature is cross-session long-term memory, and it can bridge into WhatsApp, Discord, and other chat platforms. The new version uses OAuth to hook into Grok's account system — subscribers just pick "xAI Grok OAuth" in the terminal, authorize via the web, and boom, Grok becomes the agent's brain.
Most AI subscription services tie you to their own app. By opening up personal accounts to third-party authorization, xAI sidesteps the usual API pay-per-use model and gives open-source agents a reliable compute pipeline. The company says more third-party integrations are on the way soon.
