Tencent's AI report card: ad revenue jumps 22%, WorkBuddy users pay up

August 12, 2026 | Source: t | AI, Tencent | 181 views 0 comments

Tencent just dropped a fresh batch of AI numbers, and they're mostly good. In Q2, marketing services revenue climbed 22% year over year to 43.6 billion yuan, with the company crediting its AI-powered ad recommendation models and the smart ad delivery product AIM+ for the bump. Gross profit on that business also grew 21% to 25 billion yuan.

The cloud business is catching AI tailwinds too. Tencent says enterprise services growth was driven mainly by cloud, and part of that was a rise in AI-related demand.

Agent products are starting to show real payment signals. WorkBuddy is seeing fast user growth, healthy retention, and strong willingness to pay, whether via subscriptions or buying tokens through prepaid top-ups. Both WorkBuddy and CodeBuddy claim "breakthrough" user growth and say they're leading their respective categories in China.

Hy3's full release is a big step up from the preview. Measured by token consumption on OpenRouter, it's been in the global top three since July 7. And WeChat's AI agent, Xiaowei, has quietly entered limited gray-scale testing.
