ByteDance's AI assistant, Doubao, is getting a professional upgrade. The new Doubao Pro subscription, starting at 68 yuan (about $9.50) per month, brings a powerful new feature: an agent mode that can directly control your computer and browser — with your explicit permission, of course.
Once authorized, Doubao can operate local applications, browse the web, and manipulate files to organize data, edit documents, fill out forms, and even automate cross-app workflows like scheduling posts on Weibo (China's Twitter-like platform). The agent mode comes with built-in Office suite support for collaborative editing of documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. It also includes initial "Skills" packs for creative design, data visualization, and financial analysis, with the ability to create custom skills. Plus, you can set recurring tasks, like automatically compiling daily reports or summarizing information. For developers, the mode can quickly build and deploy online applications with a backend database (currently in beta).
Doubao Pro uses a three-tier subscription model:
- Standard: 68 yuan/month, with over 5x the usage limits of the free tier and access to the flagship Doubao 2.1 Pro model.
- Enhanced: 200 yuan/month, offering 4x the limits of Standard.
- Premium: 500 yuan/month, with 10x the limits of Standard.
Free users can still try the agent mode with the Doubao 2.1 Turbo model.
ByteDance is also offering a student discount: verified university students get higher free limits and can buy the Standard plan for just 38 yuan/month. And for users with visual impairments who rely on video calling, Doubao will provide special accessibility pricing.
