OpenCode co-founder Dax Raad is sharing his Stripe dashboard, and it's a horror show: over the past few days, Stripe has intercepted roughly $323 million in fraudulent payment attempts aimed at OpenCode. Raad says that's significantly more than the company's actual revenue — if those transactions had gone through, they could have wrecked the business entirely.
OpenCode has been doing battle with these abusers for a while. The playbook: register thousands of Go accounts at once, shuffle them through rotating proxies, then resell the usage quotas token by token. On August 11, Raad announced he'd purged 7,013 fraudulent accounts, saving an estimated $400,000 a month.
The nixed $5 first-month discount? In hindsight, that was just an appetizer in the same ongoing anti-abuse war.
