Vercel, in partnership with AWS, Cursor, GitHub, Microsoft, and OpenAI, has shipped Agent Plugins 1.0.0 — an open, universal packaging format for AI agent plugins. In the past, moving the same Skill or MCP (Model Context Protocol) service between clients often meant reshuffling directories and configuration. Now, with a unified format, compatible clients can recognize and load a plugin directly.
The first batch of supported clients includes ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Kiro, and VS Code. Version 1.0 only standardizes Skills and MCP; commands, hooks, and other capabilities are still up to each vendor, and installation, permissions, and distribution remain outside its scope.
