ByteDance's Seedance 2.0 gets a 1080p upgrade — at 2.5x the cost

The AI video generation space just got a major upgrade. On April 16, 2026, at 10:00 PM Beijing time, ByteDance officially launched a 1080p ultra-high-definition version of its Seedance 2.0 model.

This was a global, simultaneous rollout. The feature went live across ByteDance's platforms, including its domestic and international services, as well as its Volcano Engine and Jiemeng platforms.

But here's the catch: access is being rolled out in stages. For the first 72 hours after launch, only a select group of users enrolled in the "Early Access Program" can use it. Official documentation won't be updated during this period, either. Everyone else has to wait for the full public release after those three days, when the technical docs will also be published.

This update is exclusive to the flagship Seedance 2.0 model. The faster, efficiency-focused Seedance 2.0 Fast model isn't getting the high-res treatment. Developers can enable it by simply passing 1080p to the resolution parameter in their API requests.

Finally, goodbye to the blur

It's about time. AI-generated video is finally moving past that hazy, dreamlike quality and aiming for pore-level detail.

The 1080p version's main advantages shine in two key scenarios:

First, live-action and animated series production. The higher resolution dramatically amplifies a character's features—skin texture, bone structure, facial contours—all get a massive boost in expressiveness. It even nails the material details of props, capturing the sheen of silk or the cold gleam of metal with impressive accuracy.

Second, e-commerce and marketing. A product's shine and clarity are what make a promotional video feel premium. 1080p makes goods look more real and more tempting, which is basically a non-negotiable for boosting conversion rates.

Double the quality, 2.5x the price

Better quality comes at a cost. Let's do the math: the per-token price for 1080p is 1.1 times higher than for 720p. And because of the higher resolution, generating a video consumes about 2.25 times more tokens.

Multiply those figures, and the total cost of using 1080p comes out to roughly 2.5 times that of 720p.

Sure, it's pricier. But in professional settings, paying more upfront to skip hours of post-production touch-ups and frame interpolation is often a smart trade-off. In commercial work, after all, "production value" is the most expensive ticket in the room.

According to reports, Lingxi AI has already integrated the 1080p version of Seedance 2.0.

You can now head over to the Volcano Engine website, Jiemeng, or Lingxi AI to see for yourself if that 2.5x price tag delivers a visual punch worth paying for.
