Chinese AI lab Zhipu has officially claimed Ox Alpha, confirming it's a new version of its GLM series — and the model weights go public tonight.
Ox Alpha landed anonymously on OpenRouter over the weekend, and once it was available for free, it rapidly climbed to the top of the platform's usage charts, pulling in more than double DeepSeek's usage. The model is tailored mainly for coding and long-running agent tasks, and it accepts text, image, and video inputs.
Zhipu is also letting everyone use Ox Alpha for free for a week; pricing after that hasn't been announced. The community had already narrowed the mystery model down to Zhipu using clues like API error messages and tokenizer behavior, and now the official confirmation basically ends the round of "guess the model."
