OpenCode is scrapping the first-month half-price deal on its Go plan. It used to be $5 for the first month and $10/month after that; now new users start at the full $10. Co-founder Dax Raad says the new-customer price attracted “massive abuse,” so the team had to kill it.
That loophole was pretty easy to game. Back in May, a user on GitHub reported that after already subscribing to Go, canceling, and resubscribing with a different payment method, they were charged just $5 again. They suspected the discount wasn’t actually tied to OpenCode accounts, so returning users could keep grabbing the new-customer rate. Account resellers were also batch-registering accounts to claim the $5 deal, then reselling the credits through the API.
Dax says the team still wants to offer a new-user discount, but it needs to be redesigned so it’s not so easy to exploit.
