ego lite denies it tracks your browsing, blames a boilerplate privacy policy

September 7, 2026 | Source: t | AI, Developer | 139 views 0 comments

ego lite's privacy policy says the browser collects the URLs you visit, page content, click and scroll activity, and search and download history. That clashes with the product's local-only positioning. Now the company says those descriptions don't apply to ego lite at all.

The issue, according to ego, is that the privacy policy was written using generic language meant for the full version of ego, and it didn't clearly distinguish the two products. The full ego hasn't launched yet and is planned to include an official cloud-hosted agent, which means task execution would involve web content, search, and browsing activity. ego lite, on the other hand, is a local browser for external AI agents like Codex and Claude Code, without any official hosted agent of its own.

The company says ego lite doesn't collect or upload any of the browsing data listed in that policy. Web page content is read by the user's own agent, and browser data stays on the local machine.
