OpenAI rolls GPT-6 Astra out to all paid users, sends two resets

OpenAI has fully rolled out GPT-6 Astra to Plus, Pro, and Business users. Just yesterday, Astra was still in a staged rollout, and plenty of Pro users couldn't get in. Today, Plus and Pro users can both use it in ChatGPT Work and Codex. Thibault Sottiaux, OpenAI's head of core product, says the team's systems scaled better than expected, so it finished the full rollout quickly.

Astra initially launched for a small set of enterprise customers, and OpenAI expected a gradual rollout over days. After lots of paid users were left waiting, Sam Altman apologized for the "messy launch." Now the team says scaling went better than expected, which is why Plus users got in ahead of the original plan.

The promised compensation is still coming, too. Eligible existing Plus, Pro, and Business users can grab one banked reset on September 3 and another on September 4. Think of it as a stored Codex quota-reset voucher you can manually trigger later; it refreshes your 5-hour and weekly limits. New accounts and upgrades made before 11 a.m. Beijing time on September 5 will also get this reset.

Plus users can run Astra, but the quota isn't generous. OpenAI currently estimates Plus gets around 5–45 local Astra messages per 5-hour window, while GPT-5.6 Sol gets 10–100. Actual usage depends on task length, reasoning intensity, and tool calls.
