OpenAI fixes eight Codex quota-eating bugs, then resets your credits twice

OpenAI has fixed eight classes of bugs in Codex that were quietly burning through usage credits, and it's resetting credits for all paid Codex and ChatGPT Work users. According to Tibo, the same quota should now stretch 10-50% longer depending on how you use the tool.

The biggest token-waster was /goal. Some tasks kept running after they were already finished, and a single one could chew through 15-70% of your weekly quota. Computer History was also found repeatedly summarizing past actions, eating around 20% of the weekly allowance in some cases. Image compression, background memory, automated tasks, subagents, and MCP connections all had similar extra-consumption issues, too.

And the good news for the weekend may not be over yet. Yesterday, Tibo teased that Codex was about to hit a new user milestone and hinted at a celebration. After today's bug-fix reset, he said: "The button has already been pressed today, so the celebration moves to tomorrow." Codex has offered resets when hitting past milestones like 15M and 20M users, so there's likely one more on the way tomorrow.
