A backend synchronization failure between OpenAI's account and billing systems has thrown ChatGPT's subscription tiers and developer API quotas into chaos. On the web subscription side, some Pro members paying $200 a month saw their usage limits weirdly reset to 75% — or suddenly quadrupled. Others found themselves downgraded to Plus restrictions, unable to select the flagship GPT-5.5 Pro model in chat settings. On the developer API side, the syncing failure is causing rate limits and pricing tiers to misbehave, leaving some users throttled beyond their expected limits.
