OpenAI is giving its AI coding agent Codex a new kind of memory: one that watches your screen. The research preview feature, called Chronicle, is now available on the macOS version of Codex.
Once enabled, the Codex client asks for screen recording and accessibility permissions, then continuously captures what's on your screen. In the background, OpenAI turns those screenshots into summarized local memory files, which can be called up as context in a fresh session.
For now, Chronicle is limited to ChatGPT Pro subscribers, and it won't work in the European Union, the UK, or Switzerland.
Chronicle is aimed at a blind spot in Codex's existing memory system. Previously, memory could only come from the conversation itself.
