Elon Musk posted on X today, again touting his promise to open-source the platform's recommendation algorithm, saying that to convince the public that the platform doesn't secretly manipulate content, "everything that affects what people see must be open source."
But Community Notes wasted no time puncturing that pledge: X had promised to update the open-source "X algorithm" every four weeks, but it's been completely silent since the initial release. To make matters worse, the note cited discussions on GitHub and Hacker News pointing out that the released repository is missing critical files — outsiders simply can't run the code on their own.
