Grok Subscriptions Now Power Open-Source Coding Agent OpenCode

May 22, 2026 | Source: x | Developer, xAI | 226 views 0 comments

xAI has officially tied its Grok subscription service to the open-source terminal coding agent OpenCode. Users with a SuperGrok or X Premium personal subscription can now use OAuth to connect their account’s compute credits directly inside OpenCode — no need to apply for or configure a separate large model API key.

To start, just run /connect inside OpenCode and select xAI. You’ll be calling the dedicated code model Grok Build, which also powers xAI’s own official terminal coding agent. The authorization flow adapts to your environment: on a standard desktop, OAuth pops open a browser login; on a headless remote server, VPS, or SSH terminal, the system prints a temporary verification code and URL for remote authorization.

This is the third time in a week that xAI has released personal subscription compute to open-source projects, following the May 16th integration with Hermes Agent and the May 19th OpenClaw connection. xAI says more open-source agents and integration channels are on the way.
