xAI is taking its AI assistant from the chat window to your local terminal. Today the company opened beta testing for Grok Build, a command-line agent that writes code, builds applications, and automates workflows — all from natural language commands. For now, it's only available to SuperGrok Heavy subscribers.

Here's how it works: you type what you need in plain English, right in your terminal. Grok Build first spits out a concrete implementation plan. You can review it, tweak it, or give the go-ahead. Then it takes over, modifying code automatically.
For bigger projects, Grok Build doesn't go it alone. It spawns multiple sub-agents that work in parallel. Need to debug latency? One sub-agent handles that. Optimize deployment? Another takes over. Update docs? A third jumps in. All at the same time.
The tool also natively supports deep work trees and headless mode, and there's a plugin marketplace for future extensions. With Grok Build, xAI is pushing beyond web-based chat into the local development environment — using a multi-agent architecture to fix the problem of monolithic models losing focus in long coding chains.
