OpenAI alumnus Tian Yonglong has officially joined Tencent's Hunyuan team, where he'll work on visual language models.
Tian holds a PhD from MIT and a bachelor's from Tsinghua University. He previously served as a senior research scientist at Google Research and DeepMind, focusing on computer vision and generative models.
This is Tencent's second high-profile hire of a Chinese AI researcher in recent months, following chief AI scientist Yao Shunyu last December.
Tencent just open-sourced the Hunyuan Hy3 model, led by Yao. With Tian on board, the company is doubling down on multimodal and vision research.
