Cursor has launched Cursor Router, a feature for Teams and Enterprise plans that automatically selects the best programming model for each task. It first judges the task type and difficulty, then decides whether to call a cheaper model or a cutting-edge one.
The Router was trained on over 600,000 real requests and tested on millions more. In Auto Intelligence mode, user satisfaction is close to Fable, while costs drop about 60%. In Auto Balance mode, satisfaction beats Opus 4.8, with costs roughly 36% lower.
Cursor hasn't revealed the full model pool, and by default, it won't show which model was used each time. The company only confirmed that the Router assigns models based on task type — for example, handing interface design to a model better at visuals, and complex long tasks to a model with stronger reasoning.
