After 4 months and 25K stars, 'tmux for coding agents' joins YC

August 7, 2026 | Source: t | AI, Developer | 146 views 0 comments

Herdr just joined Y Combinator's F26 batch. Think of it as tmux, but specifically for coding agents: you can run Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and others inside it, then put them in the background, switch between them, and check their status. Close your terminal or drop an SSH connection, and the agents keep running anyway.

Plain tmux can only manage terminals. Herdr knows which agent is actively working, which one is waiting on your reply, and which one has already finished. Agents can also message each other and wait for one another to finish. As developers run more and more coding agents at once, tools like this exist specifically to answer the question: how do you manage a whole pile of agents?

Herdr was built solo by Can Celik. Four months after launch, it has around 25,000 GitHub stars, 340,000 downloads, and more than 500 plugins in its marketplace in a single month. Now that it's part of YC, the core runtime stays free and open source, and the license has also been loosened from AGPL to Apache 2.0.
