Moonshot AI, maker of Kimi chatbot, restructures for possible Hong Kong IPO

August 3, 2026 | Source: t | AI, Moonshot AI | 271 views 0 comments

Moonshot AI, the Chinese startup behind the Kimi chatbot, has changed its legal name to Beijing Moonshot AI Technology Co., Ltd. and converted from a limited liability company to a non-listed joint-stock company. Co-founder Yang Zhilin becomes chairman and general manager, with Zhang Yutong added as a director and Song Sijia as chief financial officer.

That corporate conversion — often called a share reform — is required by China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) rules for any domestic company looking to list overseas directly: it must be a joint-stock company.

Bloomberg has reported that Moonshot AI circulated a shareholder resolution to investors for a Hong Kong listing, potentially within six months, and has begun unwinding its red-chip structure. The company hasn't confirmed any timeline.
