Google is bringing webhooks to its Gemini API, and developers can finally stop polling. The event-driven system sends an HTTP POST to your server the moment a long-running task — think Deep Research, video generation, or batch processing — finishes. Instead of repeatedly checking an endpoint, you get a notification when it's done.

The implementation follows the Standard Webhooks spec. Every request comes with a signature, unique ID, and timestamp to prevent replay attacks, and Google promises at-least-once delivery. If something fails, it'll keep retrying for up to 24 hours.
Developers can configure this globally at the project level using HMAC, or per-request via JWKS to dynamically route specific tasks to different endpoints. The feature is live now for all Gemini API developers.
