Google is bringing its Gemini AI assistant to Chrome users in seven new markets: Australia, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, and Vietnam. This marks the third wave of expansion for the feature, which launched in the US back in January and reached India, Canada, and New Zealand in March.

How Gemini in Chrome works
Gemini lives as a persistent sidebar in Chrome, where it can answer questions by pulling information from multiple open tabs. Earlier this year, Google added a Personal Intelligence module that taps into your Gmail and Google Photos data for more personalized responses. It can also access Calendar to schedule events, Maps to look up locations, and Gmail to draft and send emails. The sidebar even includes access to Nano Banana 2 for image editing.
What’s missing in this rollout
There’s a catch, though. This expansion doesn’t include Gemini’s agentic capabilities—the part that can actually operate the browser and automate multi-step tasks on your behalf. Google is keeping that functionality in testing, and for now, it’s only available to US subscribers on the AI Pro and AI Ultra paid tiers. Users in the seven new countries will get the conversational and account-assistant version of Gemini, not the one that can click buttons or fill out forms autonomously.
