Someone digging through Anthropic’s latest web and mobile builds has spotted a new feature called Orbit. Based on code descriptions, Orbit appears to be a proactive briefing and insight system that spans Claude and Claude Code. It uses an opt-in mechanism, senses your timezone, and automatically generates personalized briefings from connected work tools. So far, connectors have been found for six apps: Gmail, Slack, GitHub, Calendar, Drive, and Figma.
Orbit currently exists only as a toggle in a settings panel — typical pre-release gray-box testing. Anthropic’s developer conference, Code with Claude, is set for May 6th in San Francisco, but it’s unclear whether Orbit will make an official appearance there. OpenAI already rolled out a similar proactive async assistant called ChatGPT Pulse last September, and both Google Gemini and Perplexity are working on comparable features. Proactive briefings are quickly becoming table stakes for AI assistants. Orbit’s differentiator: it explicitly hooks into GitHub and Figma, targeting developers and designers rather than general office workers.
