If you've been frustrated by how quickly your daily prompts burn through Google Gemini's usage limits, you're not alone. Google's VP of Gemini, Josh Woodward, says the team is rolling out six changes to address exactly that.

Here's what's changing:
Free Flash-Lite usage: All prompts sent to the lightweight Flash-Lite model are now completely free, and won't count against your daily quota.
Video quota fix and double: A bug that drained your entire quota after generating just one or two videos in multimodal scenarios has been fixed. Gemini Ultra subscribers will also see their Omni video generation limits doubled immediately.
Complex Pro prompt cap: For individual Pro model requests with massive file attachments or extremely long prompts, there's now a deduction cap to ensure you get more consistent call counts.
No charge for errors and failed requests: Network delays and system errors during multimodal interactions won't consume quota — you'll only pay for successful results.
Heavy task usage transparency: For resource-intensive tasks like Deep Research, Google is designing a more detailed usage dashboard and quota overdraft warnings to give you better control over high-load operations.
Auto-remember model selection: The system will lock and remember which model you manually selected for future sessions, unless you hit a quota limit (which triggers an automatic downgrade) or you switch it manually. No more being forced back to a lighter model.
