Google has started rolling out Gemini 3.8 Flash to the Gemini app. Ask the app which model it’s currently running, and it now responds “Gemini 3.8 Flash.”
The rollout tracks with what Business Insider reported last week: internal screenshots showed Gemini 3.8 Flash Preview listed on Google’s internal code platform, Jetski. One employee who got to try it said it’s already clearly better than 3.7 Flash.
Internally, 3.8 Flash is codenamed skimaki. The update is mainly about fixing problems exposed by 3.7 Flash while trimming the formulaic, verbose “AI filler” that plagues so many model outputs.
That’s a fast follow-up. Gemini 3.7 Flash only shipped on August 13, so the two versions are less than three weeks apart.
