A Chinese crypto founder accused of taking investor money and disappearing is firing back, claiming the check never fully cleared. Li Bojie, the former CEO of Metagent, says ABCDE Capital co-founder Du Jun's allegation that he "ran away with the cash" is misleading — because only one-third of the promised $1.5 million investment ever arrived. According to Li, the agreed-upon $1.5 million was supposed to fund the startup, but only $500,000 was wired. The remaining $1 million never came, leaving the company struggling to keep its R&D going — and forcing Li and his co-founder to take pay cuts to stay afloat.
Li says he left Metagent in October 2024 for family reasons and over growing compliance risks in the Web3 space. The departure was approved by the board, and he claims he had been transparent about the company's finances all along. His subsequent projects have deliberately steered clear of Web3 and AI infrastructure, strictly abiding by a non-compete clause.
