SpaceXAI, the AI division of SpaceX, plans to launch its first model co-developed with Cursor as soon as Wednesday. The release marks the first product integration since SpaceX acquired the AI coding startup in a $60 billion stock deal.
An internal memo seen by staff reveals that the two companies delayed the launch earlier this week to optimize model efficiency. The model boasts lightning-fast processing speeds and, in certain capabilities, is positioned to compete with Anthropic's Opus 4.8 and OpenAI's GPT 5.5.
Tesla and SpaceX employees have already been testing the joint model. Cursor CEO Michael Truell told customers that the model was trained entirely from scratch on xAI's Colossus supercomputer cluster and will go head-to-head with models from Anthropic and OpenAI.
