Codex users are reporting that their weekly quota suddenly doesn’t stretch as far. One Pro 5x subscriber, converting the allowance at API list prices, says their 7-day quota went from $674.05 to $156.95 — a 76.7% drop. But the same user tested a separate Plus account and saw only a 19.2% decrease. Another Plus user measured a drop from about $160 to $80.
On the OpenAI Codex GitHub, someone also posted full local logs showing the same weekly allowance being consumed at about 2.4x the normal rate on August 14, then returning to normal a few hours later — with no plan change or quota reset in between.
The size of the drop varies a lot from account to account, third-party trackers don’t fully agree, and it’s possible some accounts are just hitting a bug. A similar episode happened back in June: OpenAI eventually found that Codex was running more background work than expected and that usage display was also off, then reset quotas for affected users after the fix.
Whether this round is a broad cut, broken metering on some accounts, or a change in how much model work is being consumed is still up in the air.
