Codex update brings hover jump and zoom alignment to long conversations

A new Codex update this week tackles two of the tool’s biggest pain points: navigating long conversations and misaligned UI elements when zooming.

For lengthy chats, Codex introduces a navigation rail. Hover over the edge of a slot to preview and jump directly to nearby turns. Thread scrolling is smoother too, automatically keeping your place when switching between long conversations.

The interface now includes alignment guards when zooming, so tooltips, menus, dialogs, selection bubbles, drag previews, and autocomplete all stay in place. The settings search has expanded to include more appearance controls, host filters, and custom provider settings — plus a new pet-specific panel. Archive management has been simplified, and unread badges are now synced between the dock and sidebar.

Under the hood, the update reduces background work when switching threads and supports segmented loading of deeper local history. Cross-platform-wise, pasting text from Codex into Slack now preserves Markdown formatting, and the app no longer hangs when pasting large text blocks. Draft text won’t disappear during thread handoffs, and pasted image previews now support arrow key navigation.
