On August 28, Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) announced it has raised $1.1 billion for its latest fund, the Machine Age Fund, which will pour money into the full stack of computing infrastructure that keeps AI running — chips, memory, networking, storage, data centers, robots, and even home AI devices.
The firm says AI's capability and the kinds of work it can do have hit an inflection point over the past year. As AI moves beyond chat and reasoning into knowledge work like coding, demand for compute and tokens is growing by orders of magnitude, and machine intelligence is accelerating deeper into every layer of the stack.
a16z says its team brings deep experience in hardware, data centers, chips, networking, and large-scale computing systems, and it has built a resource network spanning go-to-market, recruiting, marketing, customers, suppliers, and US manufacturing. The firm believes we're at a pivotal moment in the computing paradigm shift, and it's looking for founders who want to rebuild AI hardware and usher in the "Machine Age."
