xAI says it has fixed a prompt cache regression in its terminal coding agent Grok Build and reset all paid account quotas in full. The regression was introduced by a recent X platform search and web retrieval upgrade—a code change that accidentally broke the prompt cache mechanism, causing widespread cache misses when users invoked the agent.

Cache failures led to higher token burn rates and response delays, with many users burning through their quotas quickly while calling the agent from local terminals. After internal monitoring and testing identified the regression, xAI’s engineering team shipped a fix.
As compensation, the company has reset call limits for all Grok Build accounts.
