Elon Musk is back with another bold promise: monthly model releases. On Thursday, he announced that Grok 4.5 is now in private beta testing for Tesla and SpaceX employees, and that by the end of the year, SpaceX plans to release a fresh model from scratch every month.
But here's the thing: xAI hasn't shipped a new model in two months. Since Grok 4.3 dropped in mid-April, the company has gone radio silent on updates, making Musk's earlier cadence claims look like fantasy.
This is textbook empty-promise theater. On April 18th, Musk declared that the "large model factory" would be upgrading every two weeks. The roadmap had Grok 4.4 (1 trillion parameters) landing in early May, followed by a 1.5-trillion-parameter model soon after. None of that happened.
The delays have become so predictable they're almost recursive — a "matryoshka doll" of broken timelines. Now, with Grok 4.5 quietly rolling out to insiders, the question is whether this new model actually makes the public debut before Musk's next grand promise comes due.
