Perplexity's AI Agent Now Lives on Your Mac

Perplexity just launched Personal Computer for Mac, an expansion of its Perplexity Computer platform that taps into your local files and apps. Announced back in March and available via waitlist, it's officially rolling out today—but only for Max subscribers.
Perplexity Computer debuted earlier this year as an all-in-one "digital worker" capable of creating and executing entire workflows. With this upgrade, it runs directly on a Mac, accessing the file system and native apps. Press both Command keys to activate it, then issue text or voice commands. It works across any Mac app, spotting active windows and suggesting quick actions automatically.
While Perplexity says Personal Computer runs on any Mac with macOS 14 Sonoma or later, the company recommends a Mac mini. Why? With a Mac mini, it can operate 24/7 for tasks that need a persistent machine or secure local access to files and apps. You can even initiate and manage tasks from your iPhone while you're out.
So what can it actually do? Think: ticking off items on a to-do list, organizing a chaotic downloads folder, or comparing local files against web data. It can even create teams of agents across over 20 frontier models to tackle complex jobs. All actions are visible, so users can step in if needed. Files are created in a secure sandbox, actions are auditable and reversible, and there's a kill switch for peace of mind.
Personal Computer for Mac is rolling out to Perplexity Max subscribers starting today, with priority given to waitlist members. Perplexity Max costs $200 per month; the $20/month Pro plan doesn't get access.
