Perplexity turns your Mac into a local AI server, controllable from iPhone

Perplexity is launching a new Mac client that turns your computer into a local AI agent server. The company is also opening its "Personal Computer" feature to all Mac users — no more cloud-only sandbox.

Back in February, Perplexity debuted a Computer feature that ran tasks inside an isolated cloud sandbox. But the upgraded Personal Computer moves the agent right onto your actual machine. It runs autonomously and persistently on your local hardware.

The new version breaks down the wall between mobile and desktop. You can now send commands from your iPhone, remotely tapping into local files and native apps on your Mac. For web automation, the agent works with Perplexity's own Comet browser to manipulate web tools directly, no API connectors required.

Perplexity explicitly suggests setting up a dedicated Mac mini as a 24/7 agent server. And the old Mac client, which only handled search and Q&A, will be completely shut down in the coming weeks.
