Two weeks after SpaceX closed its $60 billion acquisition of Cursor, OpenAI has ended the pair's nearly four-year partnership. New models will no longer be integrated into Cursor, and direct access to existing models is scheduled to stop on November 12, 2026.
The companies' contract allows OpenAI to terminate after an acquisition — and OpenAI is practically pointing the finger at Elon Musk by name. It says Twitter violated its agreement with OpenAI after Musk bought the company, and that Musk admitted in court this year that xAI had improperly used OpenAI models.
OpenAI's conclusion: SpaceX isn't trustworthy, and it won't hand new models to Elon Musk.
