MiniMax Code 2.0 rewrites its foundation to stop long tasks from freezing

MiniMax is rolling out a major update to MiniMax Code 2.0's desktop app, rebuilding the underlying system from scratch to tackle a persistent pain point: long tasks that hang, stall, or lose context mid-execution. The new version is built on the open-source Pi Agent framework, which reworks how the tool manages conversations, state, and tool calls. According to the company, the app now launches faster and stays stable when reading large amounts of data, calling tools, or modifying files over extended periods.

The update also improves chart and file previews — users can view documents in fullscreen, zoom, download, and even edit files directly from the preview interface. On the finance side, MiniMax Code 2.0 now connects to Hundsun's financial database and the Qichacha MCP service, available now on the web version.

MiniMax plans to add remote control, browser manipulation, goal mode, and plan mode later this month — none of which are live yet. The official changelog also notes that the previous Computer Use feature has been temporarily pulled due to compatibility and experience issues, with a relaunch planned down the line.
