OpenAI has tuned how GPT-6 Astra taps into ChatGPT subscription usage. Tibo, the company's core product lead, says model quality is unchanged, but in some heavy-use scenarios, subscription quota consumption can drop to roughly one-third or one-quarter of what it used to be.
The optimization is specifically about ChatGPT subscription quotas. OpenAI hasn't detailed the mechanism, but reading the wording, it looks more like an adjustment to how usage is calculated on the subscription side.
Over the past two days, several reports have surfaced on OpenAI's GitHub of Astra draining quotas too fast. One Plus user said they ran into the limit in about 20 minutes, while a Pro 20x user reported burning through a big chunk of their weekly allowance in a single day.
