After all that AI grinding, a pretty face still sells in Silicon Valley

Silicon Valley has found a new growth channel: hiring young, photogenic women to market AI startups with selfies and sheer social charm. The most visible breakout is Corgi, an AI insurance startup whose “Corgi girls” are suddenly everywhere.

Corgi sells deeply boring business insurance. But the young women running its community and growth teams keep posting selfies on X, hosting events, and building their own personal brands. Brooke LeBlanc, Corgi’s community lead, even calls herself “Chief Corgi Girl Officer.” The official Corgi account reposts their content too.

The Corgi girls aren’t an isolated case. Georgia Witchel, CEO of human-digital-twin startup Mantis, recently christened the whole wave Silicon Valley’s “Hot Girl Renaissance.” She’s noticed more young women using selfies to promote startups, and argues that vibe coding has lowered the bar for software development so much that a complex product no longer speaks for itself. You have to bring charisma too.

AI dating app Known became the next proof point. It had pitched the San Francisco Standard and gotten nowhere. So the founder created a “San Francisco’s Hot List,” asking the internet to nominate the city’s most dateable people. More than 15,000 nominations arrived within 24 hours. Then the media came calling. Corgi’s Brooke LeBlanc made the list too.

Silicon Valley used to say the product speaks for itself. Now it’s discovering that maybe the person speaking for the product should be pretty first.
