Google's AI assistant Gemini can now create PDFs, Microsoft Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and Google Workspace files — directly within a chat conversation. The update is rolling out to all Gemini app users worldwide.

Google announced the update on April 29, 2026 — though a hidden version of the feature had already been spotted by users. Previously, if you wanted a specific PDF, you had to prompt Gemini to write the content, copy and paste it into Google Docs, then export as PDF. Now you just ask, and the file appears.
Supported formats include Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides, plus .pdf, .docx, .xlsx, .csv, LaTeX, plain text, rich text, and Markdown.
A demo video shows a user uploading a photo of handwritten notes to Gemini, then prompting it to create a PDF from the image. The file is generated and ready to download in seconds.

On the same day, Google also introduced a "Memory" setting for UK users. When enabled, Gemini remembers past conversations to offer more personalized responses, and it can even import data from other AI apps.
