Isomorphic Labs, the AI drug discovery company spun out of Google DeepMind, has closed a $2.1 billion Series B funding round. The round was led by Thrive Capital (which also led the Series A), with participation from Alphabet, GV, and new investors including Abu Dhabi's MGX, Singapore's Temasek, CapitalG, and the UK's sovereign AI fund. Combined with a $600 million Series A last year, the company has now raised $2.7 billion externally.
Founded in 2021, Isomorphic Labs is helmed by Demis Hassabis, DeepMind co-founder and Nobel laureate in chemistry. Its core technology is IsoDDE, an AI drug design engine derived from AlphaFold, the protein structure prediction AI. The engine is used to design small molecules and biologics. The company has signed deals with Eli Lilly, Novartis, and Johnson & Johnson, with potential milestone payments totaling around $3 billion.
According to Reuters, Isomorphic Labs expects its first AI-designed drugs to enter clinical trials by the end of 2026, about a year later than Hassabis' earlier target of late 2025. If it sticks to that timeline, it will be a key validation of AlphaFold's commercial application in pharma.
