xAI’s terminal-based coding agent Grok Build is about to get a wider audience. According to app researcher Nima Owji, after first launching exclusively for SuperGrok Heavy subscribers, the early access beta of Grok Build will soon open to standard SuperGrok subscribers.

As xAI’s official terminal tool for professional software engineering, Grok Build lets developers debug, modify, and refactor code using natural language directly in their local terminal. The key idea is a “plan-first” workflow — before making any code changes, the tool analyzes the entire project and generates a detailed implementation plan for the user to review. Under the hood, Grok Build natively supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP), multi-agent parallel collaboration, and can run headless without a GUI.
Before this expansion, Grok Build was only available to subscribers of the $300/month SuperGrok Heavy plan — a flagship, high-end developer tier. Now early access is dropping down to the $30/month standard SuperGrok subscription. That’s not just a price cut for an advanced coding tool; it signals xAI’s push to spread compute resources to the broader paying market. And with recent moves to license open-source agents like Hermes Agent, OpenClaw, and OpenCode, xAI is rapidly building out a developer ecosystem around Grok.
