xAI Clears All User Data After Grok Build Uploads Full Codebases

July 15, 2026 | Source: x | xAI | 283 views 0 comments

xAI has responded to the controversy over Grok Build uploading entire code repositories. The company says that teams with zero data retention (ZDR) enabled will not have their code or run logs saved. This setting also applies when using Grok Build via API key.

Users who haven’t enabled ZDR can type /privacy in the CLI to disable data retention. Previously synced data will also be deleted.

Grok Build lead Andrew Milich says that after changing privacy settings, the system will retroactively delete already-synced data.

Elon Musk later stated that, as a precaution, SpaceXAI will completely delete all previously uploaded user data, leaving nothing behind.

However, this response mainly explains how to stop saving and delete data. xAI still hasn’t explained why Grok Build defaults to uploading the entire Git repository.
