WeChat Reading just rolled out an official Skill that lets users connect their personal reading account to AI assistants via an API Key. This update breaks the old limitation where AI could only offer generic book recommendations — now large language models can directly access your private library, highlighted notes, reading duration, and other deep behavioral data.
Once you send a command to your AI assistant and bind the API Key, you get six core data-reading abilities: viewing your entire private bookshelf, quantifying reading habits, extracting and exporting highlighted notes, searching the global book catalog, checking book details and personal progress, and getting personalized recommendations based on your actual reading history.
To ease privacy concerns, the company explicitly states that the data accessed via the API Key is visible only to the user. This mechanism replaces the old tedious workflow of relying on third-party scripts or manual exports, letting you organize your personal knowledge base and analyze reading habits through natural conversation in one go.
