The US government's export control order against Anthropic didn't quite close the door. Cybersecurity firms Dragos and Cisco both confirmed they still have access to the Mythos preview — Anthropic's most powerful security model.
Mythos preview demonstrated strong vulnerability detection in testing, capable of spotting thousands of security holes in major operating systems and browsers. To prevent abuse, Anthropic restricted access to the preview in April, limiting it to the Project Glasswing consortium, a group of about 200 organizations including banks and tech companies. As a substitute, Anthropic released Fable 5 to the public, but stripped it of cybersecurity task execution capabilities.
When the export license review order came down, the US government ordered Anthropic to block Fable 5 and Mythos 5, preventing unauthorized foreign nationals from using them. Anthropic shut down public access to Fable 5 and paused Mythos 5 updates for Glasswing members. But the order didn't mention the Mythos preview. Anthropic's official blog said "remaining models" were unaffected — without directly naming the preview.
