The US government's export control order against Anthropic failed to completely block access to its most advanced security model. Cybersecurity firm Dragos and networking giant Cisco have confirmed they still have access to the Mythos preview.
Mythos preview demonstrated powerful vulnerability detection during testing, identifying thousands of security flaws in major operating systems and browsers. To prevent misuse, Anthropic in April restricted access to the Mythos preview to members of Project Glasswing, a consortium of about 200 organizations including banks and tech companies. As a substitute, Anthropic released the Fable 5 model to the public, but stripped of its cybersecurity task execution capabilities.
When the US government demanded export license reviews, it ordered Anthropic to block Fable 5 and Mythos 5 to prevent unauthorized foreign nationals from using them. Anthropic promptly shut down public access to Fable 5 and halted distribution of Mythos 5 to Project Glasswing members. However, the government order did not mention the Mythos preview. In an official blog post, Anthropic stated that "remaining models" were unaffected, but did not directly address the Mythos preview.
