Nobel Winner John Jumper Quits Google as Second AI Leader Exits in Two Days

John Jumper, the Google DeepMind VP who led the AlphaFold team and won a Nobel Prize, is joining Anthropic.

Jumper spent nearly nine years at DeepMind, where he spearheaded AlphaFold and shared the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with CEO Demis Hassabis.

Just a day earlier, Noam Shazeer — a former co-lead of Google's Gemini project and co-author of the landmark paper "Attention Is All You Need" — also announced his departure from Google to join OpenAI as head of architecture research.
