The Pentagon says its restrictions on AI company Anthropic are still in effect — a direct contradiction of Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick's earlier claim that the company and the Trump administration had resolved their differences.
Emil Michael, the Pentagon's Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, wrote on social media that Anthropic remains designated a “supply chain risk” by the department and the wider defense industrial base. Lutnick had previously said Anthropic had settled the long-running issues with the administration, and described the company's relationship with the government as improving.
Anthropic had previously faced restrictions because of government concerns that its models could be misused for developing cyberattack capabilities and similar threats.
