On August 28, Reuters reported that Anthropic had planned to acquire AI chip startup MatX for $7 billion before ultimately abandoning the deal.
MatX is now seeking roughly $4 billion in new funding. Anthropic, for its part, is in talks with multiple chip startups and hopes to develop custom silicon that could speed up its Claude AI models while reducing reliance on Nvidia.
