Starbucks, the world's largest coffee chain, announced a beta mini-app inside ChatGPT on April 15, 2026, that uses AI to recommend drinks based on your mood. You can tell it how you're feeling via text, or upload a photo of your current location or weather, and it'll suggest a beverage.

ChatGPT users can access the beta Starbucks mini-app by starting a prompt with "@Starbucks." In one example screenshot provided by the company, a user tells ChatGPT they're in the mood for a drink that's "high in protein, low in sugar," and the AI suggests a sugar-free vanilla protein latte. Other example prompts include "I want to start my morning with a bright mood" and "I want a not-too-sweet drink for an afternoon energy boost."

Once a drink is suggested, you can select a Starbucks store and place the order directly within ChatGPT. Payment is then handled by redirecting you to the Starbucks app or website.

Starbucks said in a statement: "The beta Starbucks app in ChatGPT is part of our ongoing effort to make the Starbucks drink experience more personal. We've enhanced the drink discovery feature by adding trending drink categories and secret menu items. This leverages the power of customization that happens every day through social media and interactions with baristas. And now, with AI, we're helping to create a more human experience—helping customers find a drink they'll love."

Paul Riedel, senior vice president of digital and loyalty at Starbucks, added: "Customers don't always choose an order from the menu; they look for something on the menu that matches their feeling. The Starbucks mini-app in ChatGPT is a technology that stimulates creativity and helps customers make new discoveries."

It's worth noting that ChatGPT Apps, the platform for running various apps inside ChatGPT, is currently rolling out primarily in "regions where services are offered in English." This move into AI-powered personalization comes as other tech giants are also expanding their AI assistant ecosystems, like Google bringing its Gemini AI assistant to Chrome users in seven new markets.
